I'm ready for my new family!

Hi! My Name Is Star 051126-341

I'm Available

Hey! I'm Star!

Not that long ago, people couldn't touch me. They couldn't put a collar on me. They couldn't even slip a leash over my head. The day Daisy's Dane Sanctuary rescued us during Mission RISE, I was so terrified that the team had to use a catch pole just to get me to safety!  I wasn't being difficult. I was just convinced the world wasn't a safe place.

For weeks, I lived in the quiet hall where everything moved a little slower. The volunteers didn't rush me. They sat on the floor with me for hours. They celebrated tiny victories that most dogs don't even think about—a gentle touch, a wag, a moment where I didn't move away. We don't know everything that happened before I came to DDS, but my scars and my fear told everyone that life hadn't been kind.

Little by little, something changed.

I realized those humans kept showing up. They were patient. They never gave up on me. One day I let them pet me. Then I started enjoying it. Then I discovered something even better...

Other dogs.

My goofy roommates showed me that maybe people weren't so scary after all. They convinced me to step out of my kennel, try new things, and eventually...join the party.

These days you'll find me living in the famous "party kennel room" with Tucker and Clyde, and trust me—it lives up to the name. Tucker and I can run circles around just about anyone. We zoom through the play yard, chase each other until we're out of breath, and generally act like we invented fun.

Treats? Absolutely.

Bully sticks? Don't mind if I do.

Stuffies? Well...if you accidentally leave your kennel door open, I might decide you've been looking for an excuse to share. I consider it community property.

The play yard used to terrify me. Now it's one of my favorite places. I'll run, jump, zoom, and flash my giant smile the entire time. Someone even introduced me to a kiddie pool and I figured, "Sure...I'll check that out too!"

I still have a lot to learn, though.

New people and new places can still be scary, and trust isn't something I give away on the first meeting. You'll have to earn it. I also haven't learned how to walk on a leash yet, so I haven't gotten to explore the world outside the shelter. That's a big adventure still waiting for me.

The good news? I've learned everything I can inside these kennel walls.

Now I need someone willing to help me discover what it's like to be a house dog. I'll need patience, understanding, and someone who celebrates the little victories the same way my DDS family has. And you won't be doing it alone—Mama Chrissy will be there to help guide and support my foster or foster-to-adopt family every step of the way.

If you had met me on my first day, you probably never would have imagined I'd become the smiling, zoomie-loving girl I am today.

Imagine who I might become next.
